A Life of Adventure

The Route Map, Time spent in 11 Countries

Nicholas and his fiancée, driven by a shared love of freedom and discovery, built MewMew, their trusty campervan. From scratch, they crafted a home-on-wheels designed for comfort, resilience, and spontaneity. This mobile haven carried them across 11 countries in Europe and Scandinavia, from the sun-drenched coastlines of Croatia to the misty peaks of Norway. They worked on the road, as an IT contractor and also embracing adventure tourism roles, all while MewMew provided the perfect base for hiking trails, rock climbing and canoeing while forging new friendships along the way.

Their journey was about more than miles covered; it was about meaningful moments, staying long enough in captivating places to let them feel like home. The trip brought them full circle back to Wales in late 2019, where they laid down roots — in a place that felt right after years of exploration.

Nicholas’s love of the outdoors extends to his involvement with organizations like the Mountain Leader Training Association, The British Mountaineering Council, and the Mountain Bothies Association. Whether climbing a rugged peak or re-enacting medieval history, he finds joy in connection, learning, and pushing boundaries.

When Nicholas isn’t on a trail, he’s navigating the ever-evolving landscape of technology. As a Solutions Architect at Pixitmedia by DataCore (a DataCore company), he works in a dynamic, global environment supporting post-sales and sales teams. His expertise lies in designing and deploying storage solutions, particularly for the media and entertainment industry.

Previously, he was instrumental in developing OM Cloud (formerly MatrixStore Cloud), a software-defined object storage solution hosted in a couple of datacenters in the UK and beyond. His knowledge spans from cloud-based technologies to systems like S3 Connect, MXFS, and OM — solutions that support everything from media asset backups to hybrid cloud workflows.

Nicholas has also led ISO:27001 and ISO:9001 compliance projects, managed large-scale IT migrations including several A&Ms, and taken on high-stakes technical leadership roles. Yet, no matter how technical the task, he approaches it with the same creativity and curiosity that fuel his adventures.

A Balanced Life

For Nicholas, technology and adventure are two sides of the same coin. Whether he’s crafting a solution for data storage or planning the next road trip, the driving forces are the same: a desire to build, explore, and innovate. His story is one of adaptability, from downsizing possessions to live on the road to scaling up IT systems for global businesses.

In every project, he brings a sense of wonder, unfathomable patience, a commitment to lifelong learning, and an appreciation for the connections—both human and digital—that make the journey worthwhile.
