You’ve set up your Proxmox LXC container, passed through the GPU, and verified it with nvidia-smi—but the moment you fire up an AI workload like Whisper, PyTorch crashes with a "CUDA unknown error." Recently, I had to untangle this exact issue. Here is a walkthrough of why NVIDIA’s lazy-loading creates broken device nodes in your containers, how to fix the Unified Memory (UVM) driver on the fly, and how to make the solution permanent.

After a career spent thriving on high-pressure environments led directly to burnout, I learned that peak performance is more about the essential maintenance you perform than the peak focus we can achieve. This article is my personal story about "defragging" the brain. Let's see what I've discovered about the brain's DMM, Default Mode Network and explain why a challenging, wet weekend in Cheddar Gorge is the most important work I’ll do all week for a sustainable, high-performance career.

The cybersecurity world is experiencing tremors that most won't notice until the ground gives way. As someone who's spent over two decades working the IT trenches, from microcomputer maintenance to enterprise storage architecture. I've learned that the most critical vulnerabilities often hide in plain sight. The current crisis around the CVE system and Chris Krebs isn't just industry news; it's a canary in our digital coal mine. In this piece, I explore why our industry's "silence" might actually be the sound of careful preparation, why trust in shared infrastructure matters more than ever, and what happens when the language we use to keep each other safe starts to splinter.

Travelling in a new country comes with plenty of small challenges, and one of them is quickly converting prices into a familiar currency. When I arrived in South Africa, I found myself regularly estimating ZAR to GBP conversions. The exchange rate hovered around 1 ZAR ≈ £0.04, which meant dividing by 25 to get a rough estimate. Dividing by 25 isn't difficult, but it's not the most intuitive calculation to do on the fly—especially when paying a bill or making a quick decision. So, I started using a simple Vedic maths trick that makes it much easier.

When the FBI released its final case files on Kevin Mitnick, it reignited memories of my early fascination with security, phreaking, and the evolution of telecommunications. Growing up in a household where CB radios, punch-down tools, and telecom equipment were common, I developed a curiosity for how systems worked and where their vulnerabilities lay. But always with a strong ethical foundation. Reading Mitnick’s FBI files today, I see how the social engineering tactics of the past have evolved into modern security threats like phishing and credential harvesting. Now, working in enterprise IT and media storage security, I apply the same systematic thinking that once fueled my interest in telecom exploits—except now, I build resilient systems instead of testing their limits.

I've always been fascinated by how systems shape our experience. But it was during a year in France that I discovered the most fundamental system of all; language itself. I explore how different languages help us communicate and fundamentally alter how we perceive and interact with the world. Understanding this can enhance everything from technical innovation to cultural connection. Did I discover why the architecture of language might be the most powerful system we've ever built?

Growing up in Wales, rugby shapes us whether we embrace it or not. From being one of the smallest players on St John's School's sloped pitch in Porthcawl to architecting storage solutions for the WRU, life takes unexpected turns. As we prepare to celebrate Jonathan Davies' retirement, I reflect on how my own reluctant rugby journey has surprisingly informed my approach to technical architecture and client relationships.

After two decades in IT, I've learned that true enterprise solutions aren't just about technical specifications, they are about integrity in both architecture and promises.

When I advocate for OM as our object storage platform, it's because I've seen firsthand how it delivers on its core promises without compromise.

As a long-time Windows and Linux user transitioning to MacOS on an M3 MacBook Pro, I've found myself repeatedly encountering small but significant differences in workflow. While the M3's performance, stability, and battery life have exceeded expectations, certain familiar functionalities from other operating systems are notably absent. Today, I'm addressing one specific challenge: the missing "New Text File" context menu option in Finder.

Where some see power as a force to be seized, others recognize it as a current to be navigated. This poem presents an alternative view to the stark Realpolitik perspective of The Drunken Driver Has The Right of Way. Here, power is explored through the lens of abundance rather than scarcity, patience rather than force, and wisdom rather than might.

In this darkly satirical masterpiece, Ethan Coen presents a stark view of power dynamics in society. Through the central metaphor of a drunken driver, the poem explores how force and recklessness often prevail over careful consideration and right. It's a meditation on power that springs from a perspective of scarcity and confrontation - a world where might makes right and the careful must yield to the careless.
