Compassion

Compassion means understanding that behind every technical challenge or personal interaction are real people with real concerns.

This value drives me to look deeper than surface-level problems, whether helping organizations navigate complex technical transitions or supporting individuals in challenging outdoor situations.

It's a value that flows both outward and inward - understanding others' challenges while maintaining self-compassion. This dual nature helps balance empathy with practical solutions, enabling me to recognize when people need support while maintaining professional objectivity. Through compassion, generosity becomes a natural expression rather than an obligation.

In high-pressure situations, from managing critical IT infrastructure to ensuring safety in outdoor adventures, compassion helps maintain focus on human impacts while addressing technical challenges. It ensures that solutions serve not just immediate needs but also support long-term wellbeing.

Interest and curiosity are more than personality traits - they are the fundamental forces that drive my approach to life and work. I call these my 'archvalues' because they form the foundation upon which all my other values are built. We can see how these Archvalues work in action, and how they support and nurture my core values.

Where some see power as a force to be seized, others recognize it as a current to be navigated. This poem presents an alternative view to the stark Realpolitik perspective of The Drunken Driver Has The Right of Way. Here, power is explored through the lens of abundance rather than scarcity, patience rather than force, and wisdom rather than might.
